Javiera Completes Two-Month Internship at EPFL (Switzerland)

During September and October 2023, Javiera completed a two-month internship at the Laboratory of Experimental Rock Mechanics at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). The laboratory, directed by Prof. Marie Violay, a world-renowned scientist in fault mechanics and earthquakes, provided Javiera with an invaluable opportunity to develop and conduct frictional experiments on natural faults. This hands-on experience with cutting-edge techniques and equipment enriched her understanding and contributed significantly to GeoLab's international research collaborations. Her time at EPFL not only enhanced her technical skills but also expanded her professional network. The work of Javiera is part of an ongoing research collaboration with the Geology Division, El Teniente mine, CODELCO.
