We are pleased to announce that Matías Cabezas has joined our Geological Engineering Laboratory to pursue his Master's in Mining. Matías is a geologist from the University of Chile. Matías will focus on the role of faults and their aseismic deformation proccess when induced by mining. In particular he will study the relationship between seismicity and faults, and how these phenomena impact seismic hazard assessment, aligning with our lab's mission to address challenges in extreme geological conditions.
